Graphics play an important part in mainstream websites. The choice of
graphics used in your site may make the difference between mediocre, pleasing
or stressful. If you have a site that features heavy graphics, some visitors
will not be able to appreciate all your graphic efforts due to having minimal
system resources, or even a text-browser.
COLORS
A great deal can be accomplished in your web page design by manipulating
various colors within your pages. This is as
easy as it gets. Watch what the following simple code produces:
HTML CODE: <FONT COLOR="RED">THIS IS RED</FONT>
RESULT: THIS IS RED
Not bad, 'eh? These simple color names for basic colors work quick, easily
and painlessly. You can also use the HTML Hex
Codes for a wider variety of colors. Simply use the same code but replace
the color name RED with your choice of Hex Code.
The biggest mistake is for a webmaster to use graphics, just because he
can or it's cool. Your images need to have a specific purpose. This purpose
can be to enhance your visitor's experience, navigation, or could be the main
purpose of your site.
PHOTOGRAPHS
Let's say your site is a photo gallery, or equally dedendent on graphics,
whatever the site. A wise organization of such would be to make small, low
resolution representation (thumbnail) of the image that clicks to a full size
high resoltion image. The result is a faster loading page that represents a
variety of images, using much less bandwidth.
